Cairn Splits With Centenary On Senior Day

Langhorne, PA – The Highlanders hosted Centenary College on senior day in softball action and split the doubleheader to improve to five conference wins this season. Cairn University honored five seniors in between the games that will be graduating next weekend.

Kelly Hendrickson started both games for the Highlanders in the circle, and also hit the winning runs in the bottom of the ninth in game one. Hendrickson helped hold the Cyclones to seven hits and three runs in the first game.

Centenary opened up a 3-0 by the fourth inning but Cairn came back with two runs scored in the bottom of the fourth. Hannah Blackmer and Keely Congleton both hit RBI-singles, scoring Jocelyn Good and Hendrickson.

In the bottom of the seventh inning, Rachel Clark reached on an error and Jessica Good followed that up with a single to left field. Jocelyn Good then loaded up the bases when she reached on another error. Hendrickson finished off the game with a shot into the left field gap; Jessica Good scored easily from third base and Rachel Clark beat the throw home for the winning run.

The win was Cairn's fifth of the season and fifth in the CSAC. Unfortunately, Cairn was then shut out by the Cyclones in game two of the doubleheader, 4-0. The Highlanders had five hits in the game, two from senior Hannah Blackmer, but they couldn't translate them into runs.

Samantha Darling pitched five innings for the Cyclones in game two after pitching the last two in game one and picking up the loss in that game. Hendrickson pitched all seven innings for the Highlanders in game two and allowed two earned runs.

The Highlanders will next play at Baptist Bible College on Monday, Apr. 27, to finish off the 2015 season. Cairn moved to 5-29 overall with the losses, while Centenary's record went to 17-19 on the year.
