Knights End Highlanders' Streak In Shutouts

Aston, PA – Cairn University traveled to Neumann University on Friday afternoon to take on the top team in the conference and were shut out 10-0 and 9-0. The Knights were just too strong for the Highlanders and won both games in five innings.

The Highlanders had just one hit in each game of the doubleheader, the first by Jessica Piccolo and the second by Keely Congleton. Tiffany Gower picked up the loss in the first game, while Kelly Hendrickson accepted her fate in game two.

The Knights scored in each of their four innings of hitting in game one on 13 total hits. In game two, Neumann scored four runs in the third inning and five in the fourth. They were led by Becky Guinto in game one, going 2-for-2 with two RBI and one run scored. In game two, Megan Williams led with two hits, two runs scored and one RBI.

Cairn did have chances to score in both games, both of which were in the top of the fifth innings. In game one the Highlanders had runners on second and third base but the third out was made on a groundout. In game two, Cairn had the bases loaded but the third out was made on a strikeout.
