Langhorne, PA – The Highlanders won their third and fourth games in a row with two wins over CSAC opponent Notre Dame of Maryland University on Tuesday afternoon. Cairn won the first game 8-3 and the second 4-2 with
Kelly Hendrickson pitching in both games.
Notre Dame started out the day with the advantage and scored three runs in the top of the first inning. The Gators held on to the lead until the bottom of the second inning when Cairn tied the game up at 3-3.
Jessica Good singled to drive in the first run and Hendrickson hit a double down the left field line to score two runs and tie the game.
Two scoreless innings went by before
Brigid Shehan repeated what Hendrickson did two innings prior. Shehan's double down the left field line brought home two runs and gave Cairn the 5-3 lead.
Keely Congleton then singled up the middle to score Shehan and double up on Notre Dame, 6-3. The Highlanders scored the final two runs when
Juliann Langworthy reached on an error by the short stop and two runs came in on the play.
Hendrickson collected the win in the circle but she also went 2-for-4 from the plate with two RBI and one run scored.
Jessica Good led the team with three hits in four at bats and one RBI. Congleton was 2-for-4 with one RBI.
The Gators again took the lead first when the two teams played game two of the doubleheader with one run in the top of the first inning. However, the lead quickly vanished when
Brigid Shehan hit her third homerun of the season over the left field fence; the homer also scored
Jessica Good.
Notre Dame tied the game at 2-2 in the third inning but Shehan again gave the Highlanders the lead with a two-run single in the fifth inning. Shehan's two hits gave the Highlanders all four RBI that the team needed to win the game 4-2.
In the top of the fifth inning, Cairn made some great defensive plays in all three of the outs to keep Notre Dame off the bases.
Jocelyn Good first made an acrobatic diving catch on a popped bunt.
Kelly Hendrickson was then able to keep the ball in front of her on a hard line drive to get the out a first.
Jessica Good finished off the inning with a leaping grab on a line drive for the third out.
Cairn will look to continue their winning streak when they travel to Baptist Bible College on Thursday, Apr. 23, to take on the Defenders.
