Langhorne, PA – Cairn University hosted Cabrini College in softball action Thursday afternoon for their first CSAC games of the season. Unfortunately, the bats were not producing hits for the Highlanders and they lost both games by a combined 25-0.
The first game of the afternoon ended in a 15-0 score on 14 hits by the Cavaliers. Cabrini was led by Christine Ferraro who went 3-3 with three runs scored and one RBI. Alexandria Ramos had one hit but produced three RBI in the game.
The Highlanders had four hits spread across four different players. Cairn had their best chance to score in the bottom of the third inning when Jessica Good and Jocelyn Good singled to load the bases. However, Kiley Sharp got her team out of the jam with a pop-out, fly-out, and a strikeout to end the inning.
Sharp got the win for the Cavaliers with three innings pitched, three strikeouts, and one walk. Jessica Giordano finished out the other two innings with no hits and two strikouts. Tiffany Gower recorded the loss for Cairn as she pitched all five innings.
The other two hits for Cairn belonged to Kelly Hendrickson and Brigid Shehan. With the loss, the Highlanders dropped to 0-7 overall and 0-1 in the conference, while Cabrini improved to 3-4 and 1-0 with the win.
Hendrickson took to the mound for Cairn in the second game of the doubleheader and also pitched all five innings. The Highlanders had two hits in the game; a double by Jessica Good in the first inning and a single by Hannah Blackmer in the fourth.
A highlight for Cairn came in the bottom of the third inning when Rebecca Miles lined a shot straight back to Hendrickson, which she grabbed instinctively and through over to first to force out Stephanie Diegel. That double play ended the second scoreless inning for Cabrini.
Despite the two scoreless innings, the Cavaliers managed seven runs in the next inning to take a 10-0 lead that they would carry to the end of the game. Kaitlyn Hohman recorded the win for Cabrini as they improved to 4-4 with the win.
Cairn dropped to 0-8 this season with the loss. The Highlanders will next play on Tuesday, Mar. 24, at Penn State Abington at 3 p.m.
