On Monday, Cairn opened up with their first game against La Roche College and then played later in the day against Albertus Magnus College. La Roche had lost their first game of their season on Sunday, but were able to get past the Highlanders with an 9-0 score that lasted five innings. Albertus Magnus then defeated Cairn for the second time in the day, this time 9-1. The one run for Cairn was scored by Kelly Hendrickson after a single got her on base. Hendrickson split time with Tiffany Gower as the pitchers for the Highlanders.

Tuesday featured a similar fate for Cairn as they lost a 14-0 game against Meredith College. The Highlanders had one hit from Tiffany Gower in the game. The loss put Cairn at 0-3 for their spring break trip and they will face off against Lycoming College on Wednesday, Mar. 11. Kelly Hendrickson and Gower again both pitched in the game for the Highlanders.

The Highlanders played two games on Wednesday in South Carolina, which were played against Lycoming College in the Morning and Pitt-Greensburg in the afternoon. Cairn played their closest game of their spring break trip against the Warriors when they came back from a 5-1 deficit to fall by one, 5-4.

Lycoming scored the first run of the game in the top of the second inning but the Highlanders tied it up in the bottom of the inning with a triple to center field by Jessica Piccolo that scored Brigid Shehan. The teams then played two scoreless innings before the Warriors struck again.

The Warriors scored one run in the fifth and tacked on three more in the top of the sixth inning. Cairn responded in the bottom-half of the inning when an error by the center-fielder scored two runs for the Highlanders. Piccolo then got up and hit her second RBI of the game on a single to left field, sending home Kelly Hendrickson. With two outs left in the inning the next Highlander struck out and both teams went to their closers for the seventh.

Unfortunately, both pitchers did their jobs and no runs were scored to end Cairn's hopes of a comeback win. The Highlanders moved to 0-4 with the result and took a short break before getting back on the field with Pitt-Greensburg that afternoon.

The Bobcats shut down the Highlanders' offense in the second game of the day and defeated Cairn 13-2. Cairn dropped to 0-5 with the loss and will play Mar. 12 for their final game of the spring break trip.

March 12, 2015

Cairn opened the game against SUNY-Canton with a bang and took a 3-0 lead in the first half-inning. Jocelyn Good singled to get on base and advanced on an error, which also put Kelly Hendrickson on base. Both of those runners were then scored after they both stole bases and Brigid Shehan hit one out to center field that was credited as an error by the center-fielder.

Shehan was then sent home by Jessica Piccolo who hit one to the third-baseman; also credited as an error to SUNY-Canton. Cairn maintained their lead after the Kangaroos batted in one run in the bottom of the first. However, the Roos then opened up the field and scored five runs in the second and added to their lead from their. By the end of six innings, SUNY-Canton won the game 11-3.

With the final result of the spring break trip in the books, Cairn will head back home with a 0-6 record to start the season. The Highlanders will begin their home, and conference, slate on March 20th against Cabrini College.
