Pacers Get Better Of Highlanders 65-52

Scranton, PA – The Highlanders traveled to Marywood University Saturday afternoon where they fell to the Pacers 65-52 in their return contest. Cairn went into the locker rooms at the half tied with Marywood 29-29 but were outscored by 13 in the second half.

Cairn was led by Reuben Lacy who went 5-10 from the field and 5-8 from the free-throw line for 15 total points. Lacy also pulled down seven rebounds to lead the team on the boards.

The Highlanders started the game with a bang as Aaron Stovall and Reuben Lacy led the team to a 14-0 lead, startling the Pacers. Stovall hit two three-pointers and a layup for eight of those 14 points.

Cairn kept the lead until six minutes remained in the first half as Marywood gradually clawed their way back into the game. From there the two teams played point-for-point until the first 20 minutes were in the books.

The first bucket of the second half was scored by the Highlanders to keep them in the lead but once Marywood took the advantage back, they didn't give it up. The Pacers' Shane Letthand came off the bench and shot lights out during the second 20 minutes. Letthand shot 7-9 from the field and 3-4 from beyond-the-arc for 17 points and 22 total in the game.

The Highlanders didn't have an answer for Letthand in the second half and where they were shooting well from three in the first half, Cairn was 0-5 in the second half. Marywood was also able to get to the free-throw line and convert 17-19 in the game.

Cairn had just four assists in the game, compared to 12 for Marywood. Along with Stovall, JD Zamroz and Omar Askia registered four points for the game, both made two three-pointers and one other shot from the field.

With the loss, the Highlanders dropped to 1-17 overall and 1-11 in the conference. Marywood improved to 12-7 overall and 7-5 in the CSAC. Cairn will next travel to Centenary College on Wednesday, Feb. 4, to take on the Cyclones at 7 p.m.
