Langhorne, PA – Cairn men's basketball won their second of two games this season on Wednesday evening with a 99-70 victory over Penn State Abington. Four different Highlanders scored points in double digits and as a team pulled down 51 rebounds.
The Highlanders not only scored a significant number of points, they did it while getting penetration to the basket. Cairn dominated points in the paint over Abington 48-16.
Gerroid Doughty II (Raleigh, NC) led Cairn in the game with 20 points and four assists. Doughty went 6-16 from the floor, with two threes, and 6-6 from the free throw line. Following closely behind him was
Jason Kuntzelman (Mount Joy, PA) with 19 points and three steals. Kuntzelman was 7-15 from the floor with three buckets from beyond the arc.

The two teams played through a choppy first half with numerous fouls getting called on the floor. Thirty-four total fouls were called throughout the first half, forcing the teams to adjust their defensive play. However, the Highlanders adapted well and started to pull away after the first 10 minutes.
A steal and layup from Kuntzelman put the team up by one and seemed to shift the momentum towards the Highlanders. Cairn took their largest lead of the first half with just under five minutes to play after
Zachary Jackson (Old Bridge, N.J.) hit a three-pointer to put the Highlanders up by 16.
Abington put their best foot forward at the start of the second half but the Highlanders held them off. Spencer Bartron sunk a three-pointer for Abington to cut the lead to 58-53 but Kuntzelman responded with a long three of his own to stop any momentum from building for the Nittany Lions.
The Highlanders then went on a 13-point run including that three-pointer to help solidify Cairn as the team to beat in the game. Cairn went on to win 99-70 amidst the fans' chants for triple digits.
With the win, Cairn starts the season 2-0, while Abington dropped to 0-2 with the loss. The Highlanders will next travel to Penn College of Technology on Friday evening to take on the Wildcats.
