The Highlanders opened the first set down 8-1 but quickly turned the game around and rallied off a six-point run to get to 8-7. Cairn went on another long run in the middle of the set to go from down 13-10 to leading the set 18-13. The run was marked by three service aces from Whitney Seidel.

Seidel led the team in kills with a season-high 10, as well as service aces with seven and digs with 15. Abigail Litman followed her with six kills. Haley Sheehan had four kills and four service aces in the match.

The Defenders matched the Highlanders in the first set with a long run of their own and re-took the lead at 20-18. The Highlanders then tied the match at 21-21 and won the last four points of the set to win 25-21.
