Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Highlanders Take 2-0 CSAC Win Over Rosemont

Langhorne, PA – Cairn men's soccer stopped a three-game slide with a 2-0 win over Rosemont College on Tuesday afternoon. The Highlanders improved to 4-4 in the CSAC with the win and kept their playoff hopes alive. Cairn is now fifth in the conference and will play Immaculata University on Saturday, Oct. 31.

The game-winning goal and the Highlanders' first of the game was scored by Zack Nelson (Cumberland, MD) in the 18th minute. Kenneth Mercadante (Toms River, NJ) sent a long ball from the defensive line up the field to Nelson who hit a volley off the first bounce over the keeper's head to the far side of the net.

The Highlanders finished with 17 shots total and nine on goal. By comparison, Rosemont had eight shots with four of them on goal. Cairn played a majority of the time in the Raven's half of the field and that resulted in six corner kicks to Rosemont's one.

Cairn's second goal of the game was scored by Corey Nolan (Philadelphia, PA) and assisted by Connor Eby (Kansas City, MO) in the 65th minute. Eby did well to get the ball around three defenders to the end line and then found a charging Nolan through the midfield who hit a solid shot to the upper right corner of the goal from the 18-yard line.

Craig Kikendall (Philadelphia, PA) led the team on shots with seven, followed by Nelson with three and Andrew Gordon (Harleysville, PA) with two. Rosemont was led by Karim Yunez with four shots and two on goal.

The Highlanders seniors were able to celebrate the win on senior day and were recognized before the game. The win also marked the fourth shutout win in the CSAC for the Highlanders this season.

Cairn will try to enter the CSAC playoffs for the first time in program history with a win on Saturday against Immaculata. There is a chance the Highlanders could enter the playoffs with a loss but will need other teams to lose as well.
