Langhorne, PA - The Cairn Highlanders entered the new year with their second CSAC game of the season and fell 72-38 to the Cedar Crest College Falcons.
Emily Tambussi led the Highlanders with 12 points and was followed by
Amie Eppolito with nine.
Cedar Crest came out to the game guns blazing and opened up a 19-2 lead to start the game over Cairn. The Falcons continued to shoot the ball with conviction throughout the first half and opened up a 40-18 lead after the first 20 minutes. Breonna Lewis scored 15 of the Falcons' points in the first half, shooting 7-7 from the floor and 1-1 from the free throw line.
The Falcons kept the lead at 20 or more throughout the second half and pulled away with less than six minutes left to play.
Elizabeth Hartzler tried to keep Cairn in the game with a follow-up basket after a
Regina Younger steal mid-way through the second half. The momentum gained was not enough to put the Highlanders back in it though, and Cedar Crest continued to press.
Helping Cedar Crest during the game was the ability to keep Cairn off the free throw line. The Highlanders only shot two free throws in the game, compared to 16 for the Falcons. Kayleigh Keggan led the Falcons in the game with 18 points and was followed by Lewis with 17 and Taylor Osley with 15.
Tambussi collected her first double-double of the season with her 12 points and 11 rebounds. Hartzler finished with seven points in the game for her second-highest total of the season.
With the loss, the Highlanders drop to 2-5 on the year and 0-2 in the conference. The Falcons improved to 2-9 overall and 1-2 in the CSAC with the win. Cairn will next play on Wednesday, Jan. 7, at Neumann University for a 7 p.m. start time.
