Scranton, PA – The Highlanders traveled to Marywood University Wednesday night where they fell to the Pacers 62-29 in women's basketball action. Amie Eppolito finished with 21 of those 29 points, while four came from both Amy Faust and Kellie Grosvenor.
Marywood overpowered Cairn through the first nine minutes of the game and score 21 points before the Highlanders could put one in the basket. Grosvenor scored the first two points of the game for Cairn on a jumper assisted by Rikki Shingledecker.
The Pacers played with a two-line game, subbing out five players at a time, and continued to build their lead until the halftime score of 34-10.
Cairn struggled to score at the start of the second half but Eppolito jumped in with a three-pointer at the 14:44 mark. Eppolito continued her run to 21 points throughout the second half and was helped out by two points each by Faust and Grosvenor. Faust led the team in rebounding with nine in the game.
Marywood was able to foce 24 turnovers by the Highlanders in the game and collect 17 steals. The Pacers collected 33 points off of turnovers and 38 points came from the bench.
Overall, Eppolito finished 29% from three-point range and made all three of her free-throws. Both Grosvenor and Faust went 2-4 in field goals in the game.
With the loss, Cairn fell to 2-12 overall and 0-8 in the CSAC. Marywood improved to 11-5 overall and 6-2 in conference play with the win. Cairn will next host Centenary College this Saturday, Jan. 31, in the Mason Activity Center at 7 p.m.
