Hoboken, NJ – Cairn University men's volleyball took on the No. 2 Division III school in the nation Wednesday night and were swept in three sets. Josiah Buss led the Highlanders with six kills; Micah Godshall followed with five kills.

The Highlanders finished with just two players having a positive hitting percentage, while all but two players for Stevens registered at least one kill. As a team, Stevens tech held a first-set attacking percentage of .714.

Cairn kept the match close at the start of the first set and held on with the Ducks to a 7-7 tie. Godshall collected two kills and the Highlanders utilized a triple block to keep the score even.

From there it was all Stevens Tech though as nearly every point scored by the Ducks was a kill. Three of Cairn's remaining five points in the first set came from service errors by Stevens Tech.

Stevens Tech took control of the second set as well and the Ducks rattled off three points to Cairn's one, leading to a 25-14 victory. In the match, Matthew Rhodes led the team in digs with six. Alex Lower finished with 15 assists total.

The Highlanders again went down early in the third set but kept the set within three points at 13-10. Buss collected three of his kills in the stretch, while Randall Colson had two as well as a service ace. The Ducks went on to win the third set 25-17 though, to finish out the match.

With the loss, Cairn drops to 2-3 overall and with the win, Stevens Tech improved to 2-2 overall. The Ducks two losses came against Division I schools earlier in the month. The Highlanders will next host Hunter College tomorrow night for a 7 p.m. start in the Mason Activity Center.
