Langhorne, PA - The Highlanders battled with the Owls of Bryn Mawr College to a 44-35 loss in the Mason Activity Center on Monday evening. Cairn outscored Bryn Mawr in the second half but it wasn't enough to get the victory, as the Owls picked up their first of the season.
The Owls opened the game shooting and scored the first six points of the game, putting the Highlanders down early.
Amie Eppolito helped the Highlanders get to within four, down 10-6, with a three-pointer and a free throw. Eppolito ended the game with 17 points to lead the team.
Over the next 10 minutes Bryn Mawr opened up a 13-point lead due to the shooting and teamwork of Veronica Roux and Sanam Sheriff. Roux led the Owls in the game with 18 points and 10 rebounds.
Cairn got back two of those points before the first half ended with a 22-11 lead for Bryn Mawr. Half way through the game, Adriana Castilla-Hernandez had already collected 10 rebounds for the Owls.
The Highlanders opened the second half with the upper hand though and came back to within a point by the 13:08 mark.
Tori Moll and
Amie Eppolito hit back-to-back three pointers and forced Bryn Mawr to call a timeout.
Following the timeout however, the Owls went on a 6-0 run and kept the lead to five or more for the remainder of the game.
Amy Faust led the Highlanders in rebounds with 10 and had four points in the game. Moll followed Eppolito with 12 points total and two assists.
The loss dropped the Highlanders to 2-11 for the season, while the win improved the Owls' record to 1-10 for 2014-15. Cairn will next take on Cedar Crest College this Saturday, Jan. 24, in Allentown, Pa. at 1 p.m.
