Baltimore, MD - The Highlanders scored their highest total points since November 20th but could not get past Notre Dame of Maryland who won the game with a 70-52 score. Elizabeth Hartzler led the team with 20 points hitting 6 of 16 from three point range. 
 
The Gators led by as many as 17 points in the first half, up 24-7 over the Highlanders. However, Cairn mounted a comeback before the first half was over and utilized the long range shots to get back into the game. By the 5:27 mark the Highlanders were down by just seven, 28-21.
 
The Highlanders got to within four with less than a minute to play in the half but the Gators scored two more buckets followed by a jumper by Amie Eppolito to put the score at 34-28.
 
Cairn then cut the lead down to two to start the second half; Hartzler and Eppolito picking up where they left off. Notre Dame came right back, though, with two made three pointers by Naimani Staley on two consecutive possessions.
 
Unfortunately, the Gators kept the lead in the double digits from there to the end of the game. The two teams seemed to trade three pointers at one point, and both ended the game 7-21 from beyond the arc.
 
Where Notre Dame took advantage in the game was in depth on the roster. The Gators put up 25 points from the bench, whereas the Highlanders didn't score any. Notre Dame's Zaria Comer was also on fire, shooting 10-14 from the floor for the night.
 
Cairn dropped to 2-9 overall and 0-6 in the conference with the loss, while Notre Dame improved to 4-10 overall and 2-5 in the CSAC with the win. The Highlanders will next host the Keystone Giants this Saturday, Jan. 17, at 1 p.m.
