Women's Soccer Wins Season Opener Over Valley Forge

Phoenixville, PA: Women's Soccer opened the 2014 campaign with an impressive 10-0 victory over Valley Forge Christian College Friday afternoon in Phoenixville.

Freshman Courtney Novak (Mount Laurel, NJ / The King's Christian School) led the Highlanders with a team high four goals in her collegiate debut.  Sophomore Meghan Wilson (New Hope, PA / New Hope-Solebury) added a hat trick. Laurisa Wager (Victor, NY / Homeschool) and Hannah Morrison (Fayetteville, NC / Village Christian) also added tallies with Wager finding the back of the net twice and Morrison scoring the first goal of the second half.

The Highlanders were able to distribute their scoring by scoring five goals in the first half and five goals in the second half.
Wilson put Cairn on the board early with her goal just a minute and forty three seconds into the game on a breakaway. Wilson notched the hat trick with her third goal only 16:52 into the first half.

Morrison got the offense going in the second stanza with her goal at the 64:32 mark.  Novak and Wager added a pair of goals each in the second half as well. 

Kelsey Lewis (Albrightsville, PA / Pocono Mountain West) led the Highlanders in the assists column with two. Alyssa Leister (Montgomery Township, PA / Christopher Dock), Natalie Lyon (Laurel Springs, NJ / The King's Christian School), Caitlin Williams (Morrisville, PA / Home School) and Morrison each added a helper as well.

Freshman Goalkeeper Mackenzie Paugh (Galloway, NJ / Absegami) recorded three saves to register her first career shutout.

The Women will enjoy Labor Day weekend and return back to action Tuesday night traveling to Wesley in Dover, DE. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
