Gwynedd Valley, PA - The Cairn Highlanders Men's basketball team continuted conference play Wednesday evening, traveling out to Gwynedd Valley to take on the Griffins of Gwynedd Mercy University. Cairn was unsucessful in their efforts to pull out a win as they fell to the Griffins by a score of 80-38. Cairn drops to 0-6 overall and 0-2 in the conference.
The Highlanders endured a tough contest against the Griffins tonight as Gwynedd Mercy took it to Cairn right from the start, blitzing the Highlanders with a 12-2 run over the first four minutes of gameplay. After a tough start to the game, the Highlanders were unable to find the fortitude to overcome Gwynedd Mercy's overpowering offensive attack as the Griffins bullied the Highlanders all night, tallying forty points in the paint. Cairn battled a turnover bug the entire game finishing with thirteen in the first half, and twenty-four for the contest - which led to twenty-five more Gwynedd Mercy points.
Omar Askia led the Highlanders, contributing across the board with 8 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 assists.
The Highlanders will be back in action Saturday afternoon at 4:00 pm as they will look to pick up their first win of the season, as well as finish out play before Christmas break. Make sure you come out to the Mason Activity Center, as both the women's and men's team will be in action. To continue the holiday of spirit of Starry Nite, wear an Ugly Christmas Sweater to the games. The ugliest sweater will win a prize. Also, there will be an alumni game slated to start at 6:00 pm all former Highlanders are encouraged to come to both games, and then stick around for the alumni game.
