Highlanders Open Holiday Inn Express Tip Off Tournament with a Win

Phoenixville, PA - The Cairn University Women's Basketball team particiapted in the Holiday Inn Express Tip Off Tournament hosted by The University of Valley Forge on Thursday night.  The Lady Highlanders were able to endure a hotly contested battle and defeat the Patriots by a score of 58-46, achieving their second win of this young season.

Cairn was fueled by two very impressive performances from the freshman forward and guard tandem of Britney Jackson and Esther Adams.  Jackson stuffed the stat sheet to the tune of 15 points and an incredible 23 rebounds, while Adams tallied a double-double of her own with 13 points and 11 rebounds.  Freshman Amy Faust also chipped in with 10 points and 5 rebounds in only 14 minutes of action.

Cairn led from the tip-off to the end, when center Emily Tambussi scored the first points of the game on a lay up; giving the Lady Highlanders a lead they would never relinquish.  After trading baskets for nearly the entire first half, Cairn entered the break with a lead of 26-22.  The Lady Highlanders stretched their lead to nine points early on in the second half due to a six point individual run by Faust.  The freshman entered the game off the bench providing the critical push Cairn needed to solidify their lead.  Valley Forge would not come any closer than six points the rest of the way, as Cairn conquered the Patriots by a final score of 58-46.

Coach Walt Zamroz has to be incredibly impressed with his team's performance as they have already surpassed their win total of the 2013-14 campaign in just their third game.  The strong performances of numerous freshman, as well as continued steady performances from their upperclassmen leaders have pushed the Lady Highlanders out to two early wins and have expectations high for the remainder of the season.

Cairn plays again Friday afternoon at 4 pm against Johnson University where they will seek to continue on the wave of momentum and achieve their third win of the season.
