Box Score Box ScoreLanghorne, PA - The women improved their conference record to 2-2-1 today with a 3-0 win over Baptist Bible College on their home field. Alicia Curry registered a goal and an assist in the victory to lead the team with two points. Mackenzie Paugh was equally up to the task with her nine saves in front of the net.
From the opening whistle the Highlanders controlled the pace of the game as well as the possession of the ball. Only two shots were given up during the first half by the Highlanders, compared to 22 by the opposition.
Cairn opened the scoring in the 23rd minute of the game when Curry found Courtney Novak with a clever pass through the defense that found Novak's feet for the easy put away. The goal was Courtney's seventh for the season.
The Highlanders continued the pressure throughout the first half and forced Katelyn King to make seven saves. Cairn utilized a system of tight passes to make their way through the populated defense.
One of the newest members of Cairn women's soccer, Rachel Clark, got in on the action when she picked up a scrambling loose ball in the six-yard box and guided it into the back of the net.
"I really thought that we moved the ball well today," said head coach Laura Behnke after the game. "We also executed the little things well and that makes a big difference in the game."
The final tally of the game occurred because of a shot from Hannah Morrison that the keeper saved but couldn't keep her hands around. The rebound came quickly to Curry who had no problem sending the ball into the net.
Mackenzie Paugh was tested throughout the second half by the Defenders and she saved all nine shots on goal of their 10 shots.
The Highlanders will have their next game at Gwynedd Mercy University this Saturday, 10/11, at 12 p.m.
