Langhorne, PA - Cairn University fell to the Marywood Pacers on Wednesday night in four sets and dropped to 6-4 in the CSAC this season. On senior night, Brigid Shehan led both teams with a season-high 26 kills in the match.

Marywood powered through the first set of the night with a 25-14 score. Cairn was once again without Kate Steger due to injury and lacked some offensive pressure up front. The Pacers consistently provided tough serves for the Highlanders to handle.

The Highlanders were able to put together their offense in the second set though and opened with three straight points. Marywood got the lead back but Cairn tied it at 11-11. Cairn then took the lead 17-13 with kills by Whitney Seidel and Shehan.

Marywood came back another time though and tied the game at 17-17. Seidel had other big kills to give Cairn the lead at 19-18 and also to tie the game at 20-20. Cairn scored the next three points to take the lead 23-20 and forced Marywood to call a timeout. The Highlanders then called timeout after two straight points by the Pacers.

Seidel finished the match with 11 kills and 12 digs. Sami Delfino added 36 assists and 11 digs on the night.

Two straight errors by the Highlanders gave the lead back to the Pacers at 24-23 but an error on Marywood tied it at 24-24. Cairn and Marywood then played two long rallies, both of which ended in errors by the Pacers and gave the second set win to the Highlanders 26-24.

The trend of the second set continued into the third and the two teams played each other point for point. However, Marywood took the lead at 15-12 after an error by Seidel and a timeout by Cairn was taken. The Pacers increased their lead to 20-14 but Cairn brought the match back to 21-19 and then 23-21.

Shehan kept the deficit at two with a great kill up the line from the outside hitter position. However, Marywood then finished off the third set with a kill by Ashley Zalewski and took a 2-1 advantage in the match.

Zalewski led the Pacers in attacking and collected 20 kills. The Pacers' Kelly Chadwick led both teams in assists with 46 in the match.

Marywood kept the theme of the match going and again took the lead at 15-12 in the fouth set. After the next point went to the Pacers, the Highlanders took a timeout to talk things over. The Pacers kept the lead until 22-19 but called a timeout because Cairn won four straight points and the momentum.

Despite Cairn taking the momentum, Marywood went on to win the set 25-20 and the match 3-1. With the loss, the Highlanders dropped to 11-16 overall and with the win, Marywood improved to 13-9 on the year.

Cairn will take on their final regular season opponent this Saturday, Nov. 1, at Cedar Crest College.
