Langhorne, PA - The Highlanders couldn't get a foothold against the Cavaliers in the home match on Thursday evening and fell by a final score of 3-0 (18-25, 17-25, 18-25). Cabrini remained unbeaten in the CSAC this year at 9-0 with the win, while Cairn dropped to 6-3 in the conference.
Kate Steger led the team in kills with 10 and was followed by Brigid Shehan with eight. Cabrini was led by Amy Guarino with 14 kills and nine digs.
The Cavaliers played with consistency and accuracy throughout the match. As a team, Cabrini had an attack percentage of .295 and killed the ball 47 times. Although Cabrini had more errors than Cairn, the Cavaliers registered 28 more attacks.
Cairn could not match the depth and versatility displayed by Cabrini throughout the match. The attacking power of Steger, Shehan, and Whitney Seidel matched up well with that of the Cavaliers, but the ability to play everywhere on the court favored Cabrini.
Sami Delfino recorded 20 assists as the setter and added eight digs. Defensively, Shehan showed why she is the career record holder for digs and came up with a few diving shots to keep play alive. Overall, the Highlanders played well but found themselves outmatched in the end.
With the loss, the Highlanders dropped to 11-15 overall and with the win, the Cavaliers improved to 20-5 this season. Cairn will take a break from CSAC action this Saturday when they play in the NCCAA East Regional, hosted by Lancaster Bible College at 11 a.m.
