Box ScoreLanghorne, PA - Just days after Brigid Shehan surpassed the career record for digs at Cairn, the senior outside hitter sent home her 1000th kill as a Highlander in a 3-0 win over the Cyclones. The win also improved the Highlanders overall record to 10-14 and CSAC record to 5-2 for 2014.
Overall, Whitney Seidel led the team in kills with 11, Shehan followed her with 10 and led the team in digs with 16. Sami Delfino contributed with 28 assists.
The match was largely one-sided, as Cairn controlled the momentum throughout. The Highlanders built a 14-2 lead in the first set and closed it out at 25-8.
Kate Steger also added eight kills in the win and Karianne Nilson put down five kills of her own. All of the Highlanders' attackers with a kill registered a .500 attacking percentage or better in the match.
Centenary held leads of 5-3 and 6-4 in the second set but Cairn made quick work of that and went out to a 13-8 advantage. Centenary brought the match back to 13-12 with four straight points but again Cairn pulled away and won 12 of the final 14 points of the set.
The unforced errors are what hurt the Cyclones the most in this match. Centenary committed 23 errors compared to Cairn's six.
Cairn repeated the pattern of the first set and lept out to lead 15-2 in the third set. The Highlanders went on to finish out the set with another 25-8 score.
The Highlanders will aim to continue their strong play in the CSAC when they face Immaculata University next Tuesday, Oct. 21, at 7 p.m.
