Box Score Gwynedd Valley, PA – Cairn University women's volleyball swept the Griffins of Gwynedd Mercy University, 3-0 on Tuesday night and improved to 4-2 in the CSAC. Kate Steger led the way for the Highlanders with 15 kills on 27 attempts.
Cairn quickly showed Gwynedd Mercy who was going to control the match by taking the first point and not giving up the lead in the first set. Twice the Griffins came back to within two but the Highlanders kept the pressure on and won 25-18.
The Griffins came back in the second set and led until halfway through. Cairn took the lead back at 13-12 only to see it go right back at 15-16. A six-point run from there by the Highlanders all but sealed the deal as they went on to win the set 25-22.
Sam Delfino continued her consistent play as the setter with 31 assists in the match. Brigid Shehan also contributed once again to the offense with 12 kills and a .579 attack percentage. Steger collected 11 digs in the match, while Karianne Nilson added 10 of her own.
The Highlanders finished off the Griffins with a 10-point spread in the third set and a 17-6 lead. Cairn went on to win 25-14 and improved their overall record to 9-14.
Cairn will jump right back into the action when they host Centenary College tomorrow night, Oct. 15, at 7 p.m.
