Late First Half Goal Not Enough To Beat Keystone

Box Score Box Score

Langhorne, PA - Craig Kikendall's first goal of the season in the final minute of the first half was enough to tie the game but not enough to beat the Giants on Saturday afternoon. Keystone College secured two more goals in the second half to win with a 3-1 score over 90 minutes.

The Highlanders' first chance came early on in the game off of a corner kick in the fourth minute. A shot came in following the corner by Seth Richardson but the ball sailed just wide of the net. Justin Nolan also had a shot in the 18th minute of the first half but it was blocked by the Giants' defense.

Keystone netted the first goal of the game in the 30th minute with a cross from Eddy Enowbi that slid past Caleb Pancoast to Julio Pertuz for the goal.

Just 27 seconds before the end of the first half, Kenneth Mercadante sent a long pass up the field to a streaking Kikendall who beat the defense and the keeper to level the match at 1-1.

The Highlanders carried the momentum into the second half but neither team was able to score until the 75th minute of the game. A shot by Franklin Villatoro gave the Giants a 2-1 lead, which was again assisted by Enowbi. Cairn had seven shots throughout the second half but none could find the back of the net.

Moments after the previous goal by the Giants, Keystone added their third goal of the game from a shot by Aadil Mendez. Cairn showed no signs of quitting near the end though, and added three more shots before the final whistle. Kikendall struck Cairn's final shot of the game in the 82nd minute that forced a save by Anthony Cutillo.

Cairn had 10 total shots in the game and won two corner kicks for their efforts. Ahron Park had the only other shot on goal for the Highlanders in the game.

The Highlanders have now scored in each of the past four games after failing to score in the previous three. However, their overall record drops to 1-10-1 on the season and remain winless (0-5) in the CSAC this year. Keystone improved to 8-4 this season with the win.

Cairn will face off against Rosemont College this Wednesday, Oct. 15, at 7 p.m. in Rosemont, Pa., for another CSAC matchup.
