Cairn Falls in Tight Battle with Bryn Athyn

Box Score Bryn Athyn, PA- The Highlanders travelled to Bryn Athyn last night and fell to the Lions by a score of 69-55.

Box Score

Cairn fell down early in the first half, and a layup from Lions guard Joseph Kehoe staked the Highlanders to a six point deficit just three minutes into the contest.  The teams traded baskets for much of the first half, until a Reuben Lacy free throw tied things up at twenty-three points a piece.  The Highlanders would head into halftime trailing by a score of 33-28; the Highlanders owe much of their offensive production in the first half to junior forward Omar Askia  who upon being reinserted into the starting lineup responded with twelve first half points on a perfect 6-6 shooting.

The plague of the Highlanders season has seemed to be early second half runs by the opposition, and this game was no different as Bryn Athyn sprinted to a quick 9-2 run in the first three minutes of the second half.  Ten second half points from Lacy sought to stabilize the Highlanders, but they simply could not claw back from the early runs the Lions managed.

Once again Lacy starred for the Highlanders as the junior forward put up a stat line of 19 points, 7 rebounds, and 2 blocks.  Askia also contributed a solid effort with 14 points and 6 rebounds.

The Highlanders resume play on Wednesday night when they will host Keystone College at 8:00 PM in CSAC play.
