Box Score Camden, NJ - The Cairn University men's soccer team wrapped up their participation in the Cialella Classic tournament against Eastern Mennonite University on Sunday.
Box Score
The Highlanders and Royals played 38 minutes of scoreless soccer before Eastern Mennonite got on the board in the 39th minute. It took a deflected shot from EMU's Mark Mast that wrong-footed Cairn's David Shaffer to unhinge the Highlanders defense.
Cairn was able to muster more of an attack in the second half, with Craig Kikendall recording two shots that both forced saves from the Royal's goalkeepers, but were ultimately unable to secure an equaliser.
Eastern Mennonite stretched their lead to 3-0 in the span of five minutes from the 62nd to the 67th minute. First, Christian Rhine cut inside from the left-side of the defense before slotting the ball into the side net. Juan Flores closed out the scoring with direct a free-kick.
The loss drops the Highlanders to 1-2 after facing some tough competition in the 2013 Cialella Classic.Â
Cairn returns to action on Wednesday, September 11th when they travel to Phoenixville, PA to face Valley Forge Christian College. The Highlanders rolled to an 8-0 win over the Patriots last season.
