In last years tournament, Cairn and Arcadia played out a 1-1 tie. After the first 45 minutes of Saturday's action, another draw was a good possibility as the teams entered the halftime break level at 0-0. The Highlanders held a 7-6 advantage in shots in the first stanza but couldn't make the most of their chances.

The best chance of the half fell to senior back Jeremy McAlack in the 18th minute. McAlack connected with a leaping full-volley blast from a Justin Nolan cross that went just over the cross bar.

The Knights, however, came out the stronger side in the second half, taking the iniative and the game to the Highlanders. Cairn withstood the pressure until the 60th minute when Arcadia's Dean Search reacted quickest to a loose ball in the box, unleashing his shot first-time to the near post, giving the Knights a 1-0 lead.

With about 15 minutes remaining, the Highlanders poured men forward and started to pile on pressure of their own in search of an equaliser, but were unable to find the breakthrough.

David Shaffer made 11 saves in the losing effort for Cairn.

The Highlanders move to 1-1 on the season with a fixture with Eastern Mennonite University on day two of the Cialella Classic tomorrow. In 2012, the Royals used a very late goal in both the first and second half to secure a 2-0 win against Cairn last year. EMU lost in today's second game against Rutgers-Camden 5-0.
