Dave Shaffer made six saves in the shutout effort.

However, the Highlanders needed to score in order to take all three points from the game. In the 65th minute, Cairn was awarded a free-kick about 45 yards out from goal. Sophomore Craig Kikendall sent in a ball that eluded all Hornets and landed at the feet of Ben Cardillo. The defender took one touch to settle the ball and blasted his second touch past Shenandoah's goalkeeper, Rodrigo Casteriana, scoring the game's only goal. It was Kikendall's team-leading third assist on the season and Cardillo's first career goal.

It was the third shutout of the season for Cairn who have a goals against average of 1.14, ranking them third in the Colonial States Athletic Conference.

Following six games on the road to start the season, the Highlanders will now continue a three-game homestand on Wednesday when they host Wesley College. Last season, Wesley edged out the Highlanders 2-1 in overtime.
