La Plume, PA - Keystone College's Samantha Littleford notched a brace against the Highlanders on Tuesday, giving the Giants a 2-1 win over Cairn in the Colonial States Athletic Conference opener for both teams.
Littleford gave the host the lead in just the 8th minute of the game with just the second shot of the game.
In response, the Highlanders peppered the Giants goal with four shots over the next ten minutes but were unable to find a breakthrough.Â
Keystone took a 1-0 lead into halftime.
It was yet another early goal that gave the Giants their second breakthrough. This time Rebecca Dinelli played Littleford in on goal with a through ball that the senior made no mistake with, putting the Giants up 2-0 in the 52nd minute.
The Highlanders outshot the Giants 12 to 10 in the second, but it was their 5th shot of the half that pulled them back to within one.Â
Sophomore Laurisa Wager gathered a ball about 15 yards out and placed her shot inside the far post, to cut the lead to 2-1.Â
Cairn unleashed six more shots following the goal but were unable to tie the score, as they fell 2-4 on the season and start their 2013 CSAC campaign 0-1.
This Saturday, the Highlanders will make a similar trip to Scranton, Pa to face-off with CSAC powerhouse Marywood University.
