Travel Woes for Cairn as Men's Soccer Falls to Shoremen

Box Score Chestertown, MD - The men's soccer team slipped to 2-3 on the season after falling at the hand's of Washington College, 3-0.

Box Score

The Highlanders and Shoremen battled back-and-forth for the first 24 minutes in an evenly contested match, with much of the play taking place in a midfield dual.

However, Washington College's Brian Wilkinson broke the tie in controversial fashion in the 25th minute. Wilkinson let fly a shot from the top of the penalty box that hit the underside of the crossbar and was deemed to have crossed the line before bouncing out.

That goal seemed to give the Shoremen the momentum they were looking for as Wilkinson doubled Washington's lead three minutes later. Playing a one-two passing move with teammate Drew Thompson, at the top of the box, Wilkinson was able to slot his shot into the lower-left corner of the net.

The game was all but settled in the 67th minute when the freshman completed his second career hat-trick, tapping in a crossing move from teammates Sam Wild and Dimitri Kaliakin.

Dave Shaffer made eight saves on the day for the Highlanders.

Cairn has little time to rest as they are back on the road two days later to take on non-conference rivals Lancaster Bible College.
