Langhorne, PA - The Cairn Highlanders took down two Middle Atlantic Conference opponents on Friday night to jump start their season the right way, defeating the Aggies of Delaware Valley College 3-1 and Misericordia University in three straight sets, 3-0.
In the opening match, the Highlanders battled the Aggies over three tough sets before running riot in the fourth set to earn the victory.
Junior
Brigid Shehan led the attack for Cairn, collecting 11 kills. Shehan also had a game-high 17 digs on the defensive end. Senior setter
Erin Greenwood racked up 35 assists for the Highlanders. Senior
Abbie Keating gathered nine kills to start her season off strong.
Delaware Valley pushed the Highlanders in the opening two sets but couldn't overcome an experienced Cairn team, as the Highlanders took a 2-0 lead with set wins of 25-20 and 25-18.
The third set proved to be a marathon that eventually fell the Aggies way, 27-25.
Delaware Valley, however, ran out of steam in the fourth as Cairn powered their way to a 25-9 win to close out the first contest of the season.
With little time to rest, the Crimson followed up their win with an impressive display against Misericordia University. There wasn't much that separated the Cougars and the Highlanders, but the Highlanders were in a groove that no one could take them out of. Cairn eventually swept Misericordia in three straight sets, 25-21, 25-22, 25-20, helping the Highlanders to a 2-0 start to their 2013 campaign.
Shehan, once again, led the offense with a game-high 10 kills, reaching double-digits for the second time on the day. Greenwood came up with game-highs in both digs (10) and assists (27).

Rachel Johnson eached logged eight kills for Cairn.
With the pair of wins, Cairn jumps to a 2-0 record out of the gates. They put their undefeated record on the line tomorrow as they travel to Glenside, Pa to take on another MAC foe in Arcadia University. The first set is scheduled for 1pm. The Highlanders blanked the Knights last season 3-0 in Langhorne, Pa as Shehan totalled 13 kills in the effort.
