Cairn Sweeps Trinity: Hendrickson Inches Away From Perfect Game

– Cairn University’s Kelly Hendrickson was inches away from pitching a perfect game on Monday, helping the Highlanders to a sweep of Trinity University (DC), 13-0 and 20-10.

Apart from a very close play at first base in the top of the fourth, Kelly Hendrickson held the Tigers hitless, striking out six batters in the process. Hendrickson helped herself offensively, with a 3 for 4 performance at the plate, scoring twice and knocking in one RBI. Brigid Shehan scored three runs, hitting in two runs, while going 1 for 1. Erin Meade was a perfect 2 for 2, with two RBI’s and one run. Rachel Clark had a career-high three RBI’s in the game, matching her season total. Ashley Mitchell finished 2 for 3.

Katelynn Wilson and Alexandra DeLeo had career-first in a number of stats. Both notched their first career-hits, while Wilson earned her first RBI. DeLeo had a memorable double for her first hit, eventually scoring for her first run scored.

Cairn tallied 12 hits on their way to a 13-0 opening game win, earning their second win and shutout of the season.

In the second game, the Highlanders surprisingly found themselves down 6-0 after the top of the first but their bats were even more effective the time around with ten runs in the bottom of the inning to take the lead.

By the end, Cairn had connected on 22 hits on their way to a season-high 20 runs. The Highlanders got impressive displays from several players, with six different players recording at least two hits or more. Brigid Shehan was a flawless 4 for 4 and batted in a career-high 5 RBI’s. Jessica Good and Rachel Clark each scored four runs after going perfect at the plate. Good went 2 for 2 with Clark doing even better at 4 for 4. Erin Meade had a career-day with a 3 for 3 outing, scoring twice and driving in two runs. On top of all of that, Kristen Hubler finished 4 for 5.

Jess Good earned her first career win on the mound. She went the full length, striking out an incredible nine batters for a career-high.

With the pair of wins, Cairn improves to 3-18.

The Highlanders will look to keep the momentum going against Colonial States Athletic Conference rivals Centenary College in doubleheader action.
