Allentown, PA - The Falcons of Cedar Crest College took both games of a Tuesday doubleheader in Allentown. The Faclons took the opener 7-2 before winning the nightcap 9-1.
In the opener, the two teams remained scoreless until the fourth inning when
Brigid Shehan smacked a double, driving in her team-leading 7th RBI of the season. The scoring wasn't done yet as Kristen Hubler stepped up to bring home Shehan with a single and her 5th RBI of the season.
Cairn held the 2-0 lead until two errors and a four run bottom of fifth inning for Cedar Crest gave the host a 4-2 lead. The Falcons added three insurance runs in the sixth inning on their way to a 7-2 win.
In game one,
Kelly Hendrickson went a team-best 2 for 3 at the plate, scoring one run. Four different Highlanders recorded solo hits.
In the second game, the Highlander bats were nearly silenced as Cairn only managed three hits in a 9-1 loss. Shehan finished 1 for 2 in the nightcap, but it was her only hit of the game that gave the Highlanders thier run. Following back-to-back outs to start the game, Shehan blasted her first-career homerun, giving the Highlanders a brief 1-0 advantage, before the Falcons tallied nine runs in the next four innings.
The pair of losses drops Cairn to 1-16; 1-9. Cedar Crest moves to 5-8;4-5.
This Saturday, Cairn will travel to Aston, PA for a doubleheader with Neumann University at 1pm.
