Gwynedd Valley, PA - The Cairn Highlanders dropped two games against conference rivals Gwynewdd-Mercy College on Saturday, falling 16-1 in the opener and 9-3 in the second.

Jessica Good and Kelly Hendrickson shared the duties on the mound, with Good at the helm for the first game. The Highlanders got things off on the right foot in the top of the first, when sophomore Brigid Shehan doubled to drive in Good from second base. Unfortunately, it would be the only run Cairn would muster the rest of the game.

The Griffins responded with four runs of their own in the bottom of the first and would tack on 9 more runs in the bottom of the second and third, on their way to a 16-1 victory.

Good went 2-for-3. Shehan earned the RBI with her only hit of the game, finishing 1-for-3.

In the second game, Hendrickson took the mound for the Highlanders. Cairn held the Griffins scoreless for the first two innings, until a five run third inning opened the game for Gwynedd-Mercy.

Heading into the top of the sixth, Cairn trailed 7-0, but were able to put together a string of hits in their attempt at a comeback. Jess Good and Kelly Hendrickson each got on base with hits, while an error on the Griffins allowed Shehan to get on base and Good to make it home for a run. Kristen Hubler earned herself an RBI when she knocked in Hendrickson from third. Shehan would cross home plate for Cairn's third run on a Jessica Piccolo fly ball that was dropped by the Griffins outfield, bringing the score to 7-3.

Gwynedd-Mercy managed to get out of the inning without any further damage and tacked on two more insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth and held on for a 9-3 score.

Cairn returns to action on Monday when they host non-conference opponent College of St. Elizabeth.
