Langhorne, PA – In their home-opener, the Cairn University Highlanders fell in a doubleheader to conference foe Marywood University. The Pacers outgunned the Highlanders 16-0 in game one and 20-1 in the nightcap.
In the opening game, Cairn’s freshman
Rachel Clark went 2-for-2, while both
Brigid Shehan and
Kelly Hendrickson each notched one hit.
Sophomore pitcher Hendrickson pitched all 5 innings, taking her career total Innings Pitched to 210.2. The benchmark is typically considered 135.
The game was fairly close early on until an 11-run top of the fourth broke things open for the Pacers to claim a 16-0 win.
In game two, rookie pitcher
Jessica Good started on the mound for the Highlanders. Good lasted 4.1 innings, before Hendrickson came in as relief.
The Pacers jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first before Kelly Hendrickson knocked a single to right field and advanced to second on an error to help kick-start the Cairn offense. The next batter, Brigid Shehan, was able to drive in Hendrickson for Cairn’s first run of the day, before being thrown out at first.
Jess Good went 1-for-2 on the game with a single in the third inning while Shehan blasted a single to right field in the bottom of the fourth. Hendrickson went 1-for-2, with her only hit of the game coming in the first that led the Highlanders only run.
Marywood slowly piled onto their lead from the first to the fourth innings before giving the Highlanders fits in the fifth with nine runs to extend their lead to 20-1.
The Highlanders are now 0-7 with the pair of losses but will have a chance to end the skid on Tuesday when Cairn travels to Eastern University for a doubleheader with the Eagles.
