Men's Basketball Pressed by Valley Forge: Fall 82-64

Box Score

Langhorne, PA - Cairn University struggled from the opening minutes and never found its feet in the first half, falling behind very early and eventually falling in an 82-64 defeat to Valley Forge Christian College.

Valley Forge started the game in a full-court press that gave the Highlanders backcourt all sorts of fits. It worked from the Patriots stand-point, as they rolled out a 12-0 after only 3:29. Valley Forge had extended its lead to 20 points at the halfway mark of the half, 30-10. The teams would go into the lockerroom with the Patriots comfortably in front 45-24.
The Patriots scored 20 points off of turnovers in the opening stanza.

On the bright side for the Highlanders, the second half was a much more even game. In fact, Cairn outscored Valley Forge 40-37 in the final 20 minutes.

Having finally come to grips with the Patriots pressure, Cairn limited Valley Forge's point off turnovers which seemed to stop the bleeding.

Cairn were only able to get as close as 16 points though in the second half, but can be thankful things didn't carry on the way of the first half.

At the final buzzer, Valley Forge held an 82-64 lead.

Reuben Lacy led the charge for Cairn with 18 points and 7 rebounds. Aaron Stovall contributed 17 points. Kyle Bonner reached double figures with 10 points. Charles Hopkins logged 4 assists with 6 points.

Domenick Bond had a game-high 21 points for the Patriots while Kevin Mack contributed 17 of his own. Both Jonathan Dukes and Jean LeBlanc tallied 10 points.

Cairn will host Immaculata this Wednesday, February 13 at 8pm to roundout their CSAC schedule for 2012-13.
