Men's Soccer Surges Late but Fall to Neumann, 2-1

Aston, PA - Cairn University unfortunately closed outs its 2013 season with a 2-1 loss to Colonial States Athletic Conference powerhouse Neumann University.

The Knights got on the board first in the 34th minute from a corner-kick. After playing the ball short, Neumann's Abu Donzo's cross found Dan Chrashewsky who headed the ball past Cairn's Dave Shaffer. It would prove to be the only goal of the first half, as Neumann took a 1-0 lead into halftime.

The Highlanders mounted several strong attacks in the second half, but it was Neumann who struck again. Just 54 seconds out of the break, the Knights were up 2-0. Preston Dennis put the ball nearpost off of Donzo's 2nd assist of the game.

As Cairn continued to push forward, the breakthrough finally came in the 83rd minute making for a very nervous final seven minutes for Neumann. From a corner-kick, both Justin Nolan and Mark Heater had their chances to put the ball in the back of the net before the ball made its way back to Nolan a second-time. The junior made no mistake, smashing the ball into the back of the net from 6-yards out for his 3rd career goal. Heater and Cody Mosely were credited with the assists.

It made for a nervy final seven minutes for Neumann but the Knights defense was able to hold up, eaning the 2-1 win.

Shaffer made eight saves on the day.

Cairn finished the season 8-11-1, 2-7 in CSAC.

The Highlanders say goodbye to David Shaffer, Mark Horn, Jeremy McAlack, and Cody Mosely.
