Widener Pulls Away in the Second Half, Topping the Highlanders 99-79

Box Score Chester, PA - Freshman Tyler Lee scored a career-high 18 points in the 99-79 loss to the Middle Atlantic Conference foe, Widener University, on Tuesday evening.

Box Score

Junior Omar Askia had the hot hand in the first half for the Highlanders, knocking down 4-of-5 for nine first half points, before Lee came on strong in the second stanza.

Just six and a half minutes into the first half, the host clung to a 12-10 before going on a 9-0 run to open up a 21-10 lead. However, Cairn refused to let the game get away from them early and clawed their way back into the contest, knotting the score at 37-37 with just under three minutes remaing in the half.

Widener would take a 45-40 lead into the break.

Out of the break, the Pride used several miniature breaks to slowly creep ahead into a double-digit lead, including a 7-0 in just 36 seconds from the 10:20 to the 9:44 mark.

Once Widener had itself a two-figure lead, the closest the Highlanders would get would be 11-points at the 10:20 to play. The Pride outscored the Highlanders 54-39.

Lee recorded his first double-double of his career, adding ten rebounds to his 18 point night in 33 minutes of action. Omar Azaria (16) and JD Zamroz (13) also both reached double-digits for the first time in their careers.

Widener's Greg Lawson had a game-high 22 points and 16 rebounds, while teammate Mark Pryzbylkowski chipped in 19 points.

The Highlanders showed more fight in the paint this game, coming up with 40 rebounds but still being outplayed on the boards 50-40.

Cairn falls to 0-2 on the season. Widener is now undefeated in the early going of the season at 3-0

The men return to the court this Saturday when they host Penn St.-Abington at 4pm. Cairn's solo win of the '12-13 season came against the Nittany Lions in a very entertaining game, 85-82.
