Highlanders Rise to the Occassion, Lock Up 2nd Seed in CSAC Playoffs

16 kills and 18 digs for Shehan (15)
Box Score Langhorne, PA - After dropping the opening set 15-25, Cairn won three straight sets against Colonial States Athletic Conference rivals Neumann University 25-18, 25-23, 25-23.

Box Score

Having dropped only one set in the last month, the Highlanders had won ten matches in a row coming into Wednesday's match up. So it may have come as a bit of a surprise and new feeling for the ladies in black to be behind after the opening set. But as Isoroku Yamamoto would have said, "I fear all we have done is awaken a sleeping giant." Awaken the Highlanders did, responding with three set wins in a row.

On a night when Cairn recognized five senior players, all five seniors and the rest of the Highlanders squad played their part in the comeback.

Backed by a raucous crowd, junior Brigid Shehan led the charge with a double-double, collecting a team-high 16 kills and 18 digs. Her 16 kills were a season-high for the third year player. Senior setter Erin Greenwood put up an impressive 39 assists, helping fellow seniors Emily Mayer and Rachel Johnson register nine kills each. Abbie Keating pitched in with six kills but was a major factor on defense, gathering 16 digs. Greenwood and Ashleigh Colomina also reached double-digits in digs, accumulating 21 between the pair.

Both Greenwood and sophomore Nicole Spicer rocketed five service aces on the night. Shehan tallied one service ace, putting her only two shy from her 100th service ace.

Neumann's Kelsey D'Imperio and Katelin Kuklentz recorded 15 kills.

With the win, the Highlanders secured the 2nd seed in the CSAC playoffs. Both Cairn and Neumann have nine wins each in conference, but the Knights have lost one more game than Cairn and are done with their CSAC schedule.

At worse, the Highlanders win the head-to-head tie breaker with Neumann and at best Cairn finishes the season 10-1, depending on their result against Keystone College.

It was the first win for the Highlanders over Neumann since 2009, when the ladies knocked off the Knights in the CSAC semi-finals before they eventually fell to Cabrini College in the championship.

The Highlanders drive to La Plume, PA this Saturday to wrap up their regular season against the Giants of Keystone before heading into the post-season.
