Cavaliers End Highlanders' Postseason Hopes

Box Score Langhorne, PA - In a must win game, men's soccer fell 2-0 to Colonial States Athletic Conference reigning champs Cabrini College.

Needing to win their two final games of hte season to earn a playoff spot, the Highlanders had their work cut out for them facing Cabrini College, the 2012 CSAC champions.

The Highlanders provided Cabrini with a stiff defensive challenge, but were unable to muster a lot in the form of an attack. Cairn limited Cabrini to fewer than 10 shots during the 90 minutes, with the Cavaliers averaging more than 15 shots a game for the seaosn. However, the Highlanders only registered one shot.

After 32 minutes of scoreless soccer, the Cavaliers were able to break the deadlock. Cairn's goalkeeper Dave Shaffer made one of his five shots on the day, only for the rebound to fall to Tyler Bond who blasted his shot into the back of the net.

The game remained 1-0 until the 74th minute. With the Highlanders pushing men forward in search of an equaliser, Cabrini capitalized with a numbers up counter-attack. Bobby Kane slotted the ball across the top of the penalty box to a wide open Rey Jimenez who unleashed his shot into the top left corner, giving Cabrini a tw goal cushion at 2-0.

With the loss, Cairn was knocked out of the race for a playoff spot, falling to 2-6 in the CSAC. On the season the Highlanders are now 8-10-1.

The day also marked the final home game for four seniors; Dave Shaffer, Cody Mosely, Jeremy McAlack, and Mark Horn.

Cairn will play its season finale on the road against Neumann University on Saturday, November 2.
