Radnor, PA - Cairn University's men's basketball team dropped a conference match up against Cabrini College on Saturday.
Box Score
The Highlanders traveled for their 5th conference game of the season to face Cabrini College, the 2011-12 NCAA Div III National Tournament finalist. Cairn's
Aaron Stovall knocked down 4-of-9 3-pt attempts to lead the Highlanders with 17 points, a season-high for Stovall, and 7 rebounds. Freshman transfer
Alec Filippini made a case for his spot on the court by going 4-for-6 from the field, finishing with 10 points, and committing no turnovers in 13 minutes of play.
It wasn't enough though for Cairn to overcome a high-powered Cavaliers side who were able to count on points from 13 different players with their depth of squad. Fran Rafferty paced the Cavaliers with 15 points while AJ Williams added 10 of his own. Cabrini took a 50-29 lead after the first half and continued to control things in the second half on their way to a 94-56 win.
Ironically, it was Cairn that had a 5-0 lead 2 minutes into the game. However, a 16-3 run by the host gave Cabrini a 16-8 advantage at the 14:00 minute mark. At 11:22, the Cavaliers were clinging to an 18-12 lead when Cabrini went on a back-breaking 19-0 run over the next 6 minutes, creating a 37-12 gap from which the Highlanders never recovered.
The second half started similar to the first, with Cairn making a couple of baskets to start things off before another Cavaliers run quickly regained momentum to the home side. With the score at 59-33, Cabrini shutout the Highlanders for the next 4 minutes and scored 11 points of their own, opening up a 70-33 score and eventually evolving into a 94-56 finish.
Cairn is now 1-9 overall and 0-5 in conference play. Cabrini improves to 8-4; 4-1.
This wednesday, the Highlanders will travel to La Plume, PA to square off with fellow CSAC opponent Keystone College at 6pm.
