Clarks Summit, PA - The men's basketball team ran into a Baptist Bible team with a hot hand on Monday night, dooming the Highlanders to another defeat.
Baptist Bible College used two big runs in pulling out a victory over Cairn University. In the first half, with the Defenders clinging to a only 1 point lead (15-14), BBC rattled off five straight baskets to open up a 12 point lead (26-14). But Cairn answered with a 6-0 run of their own to pull back withing 6 points, 26-20. BBC held a slim 30-25 advantage at th break.
What happened after the break broke the game wide open. In the opening ten minutes of the half, the Defenders used separate runs of 8 points and 11 points to eventually open up an 23 point lead over their rivals. At that point, the game was all but determined as the Highlanders were only able to claw back to within 16 points just before the final. BBC took the game 68-52.
Cairn's 34% shooting from the field was no match for BBC, who knocked down 26-of-50 shots (52%). Dan Dodd had a game-high 18 points and 9 rebounds for the Defenders on 9-of-16 shooting.
Sophomore forward
Reuben Lacy paced the Highlanders with 12 points, grabbing 5 rebounds. Brother
Barron Lacy came down with 8 rebounds to go with his 5 points.
Charles Hopkins recorded 6 points and 4 assists playing the point.
Alec Filippini finished with 9 points and 6 rebounds to improve his averages.
The loss drops Cairn to 1-12 and 0-8 in CSAC. BBC moves to 3-13 and earned their first conference win of the season, 1-8.
Cairn will play host to Marywood University on Wednesday night. The game is scheduled for 7pm.
