Men's Soccer Draws With Arcadia

Camden, NJ - In the first game of the Rutgers-Camden Ciallela Tournament, Cairn University battled to a 1-1 draw with Arcadia University.

Arcadia jumped all over the Highlanders early on, but as the game grew, so did Cairn's confidence. After reaching halftime all square at 0-0, the Highlanders came out of the second half with a bit more bite. With both teams going back and forth, Cairn finally made the breakthrough in the 64th minute. Freshman forward Andrew Milcarek (Franklinville, NJ / Cumberland Christian) got on the end of fellow freshman Craig Kikendall's (Philadelphia, PA / LaSalle) driven ball into the box for his first collegiate goal, giving Cairn a 1-0.

The lead lasted only 8 minutes though. In the 72nd minute, Arcadia's Nick Morris found space at the top of the box to line up a shot. His first shot was blocked by freshman defender Ben Cardillo's (Little Egg Harbor / Pinelands Regional) well timed tackle, but the initial shot sends goalkeeper David Shaffer (Denver, PA / Garden Spot) into a diving save for a shot that never makes it. The blocked shot redirects right back to Morris and the Knight's striker finishes at the second time of asking.

As Arcadia looked to carry their momentum, the Highlanders looked to strike on the counterattack. Both teams would have their chances in both overtimes, but neither were up to the task as the game finished 1-1.

Both teams return Sunday for the final day of the tournament. Cairn will face off against St. Joseph's (L.I.) at 2pm.
