Langhorne, PA - Cairn University's men's soccer team rebounded from their loss this past weekend with a thrilling 2-1 overtime win against Berkeley College.
Last season's match between Cairn and Berkeley College also finished 2-1 and also went into overtime. However, last season it was the Knights of Berkeley College who came out on top. This time around, the Highlanders had their way.
Freshman
Ahron Park opened the scoring in the 11th minute when he met junior midfielder
Cody Mosely's cross with a well placed header. The goal was Park's 2nd of the season. The game carried on at a frantic pace back-and-forth and it was Berkeley who scored next. In the 34th minute, the Knight's Johnny Campos put in a cornerkick that missed the initial swarm of players but found Raymond Scalfani wide open. Scalfani made no mistake with his first touch and tied the score at 1-1.
The game continued at a face pace after the restart with Cairn outshooting Berkeley 11-5 in the second half but unable to find the go-ahead goal. After 90 minutes, the game went to overtime. In overtime, both teams recorded 2 shots but it was the Highlanders 2nd shot that ended the game. Senior forward
Seth Mangum recieved a pass from Mosely and swerved in a cross that found Park backpost to knock in the game-winner, his 2nd goal of the game. Mosely recorded his 2nd assist of the game as well.
Cairn held a 20-13 advatage in shots, including 13 on goal.
Dave Shaffer made 6 saves in net.
Park now leads all Highlanders with 3 goals on the season.
Cairn moves to 2-4-1 on the season and will play another non-conference opponent in Shenandoah University on Wednesday, September 26. Berkeley falls to 3-5.
