Highlanders Sluggish in Rain

Radnor, PA - Cairn University's men's soccer team got their conference schedule underway with a match against Cabrini College, in what was at times a torrential downpour.

Cabrini's George Lambritsios opened the scoring in the 23rd minute, giving the Cavaliers a 1-0 lead. Then the rain started to fall. And then some more. Eventually the game was delayed, in the 36th minute, for 30 minutes until the storm passed. But not before the Cavaliers added to their first half goal tally. Anthony Giralamo netted the teams second goal in the 34th minute to double their advantage.

The storm passed and play resumed shortly before halftime, which came with the home team leading 2-0.

The second half saw more intensity from the Highlanders, but it wasn't their night. Cairn struggled to find any passing rhythm. Cabrini tallied a third goal in the 51st minute after a couple of Highlanders failed to control a slippery ball. That led to a 50/50 challenge, which resulted in Anthony Giralamo finding himself in on goal alone. Giralamo slotted home for his second goal of the game.

Cabrini outshot the Highlanders 18-4 on the night, although Cairn limited Cabrini to only 6 shots in the second stanza.

Cairn slips to 1-4-1 overall and starts their 2012 CSAC schedule with a loss. They'll get their chance next Saturday for their first conference win, but before then, they have two more non-conference games. Monday sees Berkeley College come to Langhorne, PA for a 4pm kick-off.
