In game one, Gwynedd-Mercy scored a game-tying run in the top of the 7th inning forcing extra innings. In the top of the 8th inning, the Griffins scored the decisive run helping Gwynedd-Mercy to a 4-3 victory.
PBU scored the opening run in the bottom of the 1st inning when
Kim Martin (Lititz, PA / Warwick) drove an RBI single to center-field, bringing home
Sara Poole (Edison, NJ / Timothy Christian), in her only hit of the game. Gwynedd-Mercy scored single runs in the top of the 3rd nad 4th innings to take a 2-1 lead.
In the bottom of the 5th inning, still down by a single run and already sitting on 2 outs, Sara Poole drilled her second double of the game. Her double advanced
Emily Laudenslager (Allentown, PA / Parkland) to third. This set up
Kelly Hendrickson (Southampton, PA / William Tennet) for a 2 RBI single. On the same play, after Poole and Laudenslager had scored, Hendrickson was thrown out at second-base to end the inning. The damage had been done though with PBU leading 3-2.
That set the stage for Gwynedd-Mercy's late game heroics at the end of game one.
In the follow-up game, the Griffins' Kaityn Johnson kept PBU to only 3 hits. In those 3 hits, PBU was able to put a single run up on the scoreboard through
Emily Cronin (Franklinville, NY / New Life Christian). Thast single run did not match Gwynedd-Mercy's 2-run first inning or their 3-run 4th inning. Those 5 runs would be all the Griffins would need to complete the two game sweep of the Crimson Eagles.
The Crimson Eagles finished the 2012 season at 5-35 overall and 2-20 within the Colonial States Athletic Conference.
Senior Sara Poole closes out the end of a superb 4-year career for the softball program with a 3-for-7 performance on the day and scoring 2 runs.
