Box Score | Game 2
Kelly Hendrickson (Southampton, PA / William Tennet) was on the mound in both games for PBU pitching 12.1 innings of action. Hendrickson struck out 5 batters and only gave up one earned run in game two.
In game one,
Brigid Shehan (Media, PA / Penncrest) went a perfect 2-for-2 at the plate and earning one RBI.
Ashley Mitchell (Fairless Hills, PA / Pennsbury) went 2-for-3 and scored 2 of the Crimson Eagles 6 runs.
St. Elizabeth had jumped out to a 7-0 lead after four innings, but a four run Crimson Eagle rally in the top of the 5th inning cut the lead to 7-4. After St. Elizabeth had added 2 runs in the bottom of the 5th to restore the lead to 9-4, PBU once again chipped away with two more runs of their own, slashing their deficit to only a runs, 9-6. A 5-run bottom of the sixth inning ended any hopes of a comeback though as St. Elizabeth sealed game one 14-6.
Game two got off on the wrong foot for the Crimson Eagles when St. Elizabeth put up 3 runs in the bottom of the first. In the top of the 2nd, PBU pulled back one run to decrease the deficit to 3-1.
Things got real exciting in the top of the 4th when PBU scored two runs to even the score at 3-3. With some solid pitching from Hendrickson and clutch defending from the Crimson Eagles, PBU had shutout St. Elizabeth from the 2nd inning to the 6th inning. Unfortunately, in the bottom of the 7th it only took one run to squeak the win out for St. Elizabeth, 4-3.
Emily Cronin (Franklinville, NY / New Life Christian) went 2-for-4 in game two, while Shehan and Mitchell recorded one hit apiece along with
Emily Laudenslager (Allentown, PA / Parkland) and
Jess Kirkner (Jamison, PA / Calvary Christian).
PBU slips to 5-31 overall and returns to conference play this weekend when they play back-to-back doubleheaders against Marywood (Friday) and Gwynedd-Mercy (Saturday). The games on Friday will be in Scranton and PBU will be hosting the contests on Saturday against the Griffins.
