Langhorne, PA - Philadelphia Biblical University's softball began its in-conference play with a doubleheader against Cedar Crest College.
It looked like an exact replica from last year's meetings between these two teams with game 1 being a close encounter and more space between in the follow-up game.
Game 1 began with consecutive 1-run innings for the Falcons who would take a 2-0 lead heading into the 5th inning. In the 5th, Cedar Crest found itself with the bases loaded but with 2 outs. The inning on a knifes edge, one more out keeping the score within 2 runs or a base hit driving in at least one run. It would be the latter. Cedar Crest's Lauren Salge hit a double down the right field line driving in 2 runs. PBU would get out of the inning without any further damage and leaving 2 Falcons stranded on base.
Unfortunately, the Crimson Eagles couldn't get their bats going and finished on the wrong end of a 4-0 score line in game 1.
Kiersten Waltz (Glen Burnie, MD / Annapolis Area Christian) pitched a complete game for the Crimson Eagles, striking out 5 Falcons.
Defensively,
Emily Cronin (Franklinville, NY / New Life Christian) led PBU with 9 put outs.
Game 2 didn't go the way PBU had imagined. Still struggling to get their offense going, the Crimson Eagles fell behind early and couldn't silence the bats of Cedar Crest.
PBU's
Kelly Hendrickson (Southampton, PA / William Tennet) is proving to be a consistent and accurate pitcher, but maybe too accurate. With a steady stream of good pitches over the plate, the Falcons seemed to find their rhythm and scored in every inning but one.
Hendrickson did help herself offensively going 2-for-3 and scoring a run. Emily Cronin also went 2-for 3, while
Brigid Shehan (Media, PA / Penncrest) drove in 2 runs on a 1-for-3 outing.
PBU would fall 12-2 in the second game and 1-7 in the standings; 0-2 in CSAC play.
Cedar Crest extended their winning streak to four games.
There will be no rest for the Crimson Eagles as they return to action immediately against Rosemont College tomorrow at 1pm in another CSAC doubleheader.
