Monster Night For Derus

Box Score

Phoenixville, PA
- It was a career night for one of PBU's seniors but in the end, Valley Forge Christian pulled out a come from behind win.

It's not too often you here about a player ending up on the losing end of a game after scoring 38 points. But that's exactly what happened to Philadelphia Biblical University's senior guard Adam Derus (Lancaster, PA / Manheim Township). Derus had a career night when he dropped 7-of-11 3-pointers, went a perfect 11-for-11 in free-throws, and 3 additional 2-point baskets. Overall, he shot 10-for-19. Earlier in the season, Derus had 8 3-pointers and 30 points against Centenary College.

Thanks to Derus' hot hand, the Crimson Eagles were able to claim a 35-29 halftime lead. But it was the pressure from the Patriots and turnovers from the Crimson Eagles that turned the game around. Valley Forge was able to score 42 points off of turnovers through the course of the game and dominated inside. The Patriots scored 42 points in the paint compared to PBU's 12.

To start the second half, the Patriots were able to quickly tie the score at 37 all after only 2 and a half minutes. Then over the course of the next six minutes, VFCC broke out to a 51-44 lead. But it wasn't until after a pair of Derus free-throws that the Patriots really exerted themselves on the game. Derus's free-throws brought the game to 52-46, in favor of the Patriots. It was at that point that Valley Forge used a series of small runs to break away from the Crimson Eagles. Eventually leading to an 81-61 win for the Patriots.

Luke Nelson (Kijabe, Kenya / Rift Valley Academy) was PBU's second leading scorer with 6 points.

Latrell Alford led the Patriots with 26 points.

The #7 ranked team in the country, Cabrini College, now awaits the Crimson Eagles this Saturday. The game will be held in Radnor, PA and tip-off is scheduled for 4pm.
