Double Whammy For Men's Basketball in Basinger Tourney

Williamsport, PA - The men's basketball team from Cairn University took part in the Basinger Tournament, hosted by Lycoming College, this past weekend.

In the tournament's opener, Cairn took on host Lycoming. It turned out to be a game the Highlanders would like to quickly forget, as the Warriors pounded Cairn to the tune of 103-27. Lycoming had four players finish in double-digits with Ihsaan Davis leading the way with 19 points. Kevin Anthony and William Wingate each finished with 12 points. Three players for the Highlanders finished with a team-high of 5 points. The lone bright spot for the Highlanders was Reuben Lacy's 11-rebound performance which was a game-high. The Warriors proved in a another class, advancing to the tournament championship game against John Jay College.

On Sunday, Cairn faced-off with Galluadet University in the tournaments consolation game. This time around, the Highlanders were in the game. In fact, Cairn jumped out to a 6-0 lead at the 16:09 mark. Although the Bison tied the game at 9-9 at the 12:54 mark, the Highlanders never trailed until a back-to-back baskets by Galluadet game the Bison a 20-18 lead with just over 6 minutes to play in the opening half. New-face Alec Filippini briefly regained the lead for the Highlanders with a tri-fector, making it 21-20 in Cairn's favor. Galluadet closed out the half on a 10-4 run though, taking a 30-24 lead into the half.

The second stanza started with Galluadet maintaining a single-digit lead until about midway through the half when the Bison created a 13-point lead, 49-36. The Bison reached a 16-point lead twice in the final before the Highlanders started chipping away at the lead.

A 3-point shot from Aaron Stovall cut the lead to only 7 points with just under 2 minutes to play, 63-56. That was as close as Cairn would get though, with Galluadet making the most of their free-throws down the stretch. Galludat would hold on for a 68-56 win.

Barron Lacy and Charles Hopkins responded with 12 points each to lead the Highlanders. Aaron Stovall went 3-for-8 from beyond the arc on his way to 11 points. Barron continued to make his presence known in the paint with 9 rebounds. The Highlanders had some trouble stopping the Bison's Layton Seeber who finished with 29 points.

Cairn falls to 1-8, but return to conference play on January 5th with a road-trip to Cabrini College.

Galluadet jumps to 5-7 after the win.
