Mangum Nets Two In Win Over BBC

Clarks Summit, PA - Cairn University used a strong second half to pull away from the Defenders of Baptist Bible College.

Box Score

In just the 6th minute of play, senior forward Seth Mangum tapped home from close range after Gary Bruce and Ahron Park unlocked the Defenders backline, giving Cairn an early 1-0 lead. Baptist Bible were back on level terms though at the 34:38 mark when Caleb Evans found Bobby Newman with a through ball, which Newman chipped over the onrushing Dave Shaffer.

Despite holding a 12-5 advantage in shots, Cairn found itself tied going into halftime following a lackluster 45 minutes.

This time with a purpose, the Highlanders came out in the second half a different team. A vast majority of the second stanza was spent in the BBC end but it took 23 minutes to break down the Baptist blockade in front of their goal. In the 78th minute, freshman Tim Andrews sent in a beautiful cross from the right side and found a streaking Seth Mangum inside the box to one-time his shot past BBC goalkeeper Dillon Bowman. The goal was Mangum's 2nd of the game and 3rd of the season. The assist was the first of many to come in the young career of Tim Andrews.

Cairn's second half dominance was made complete when junior midfielder Cody Mosely played in a threw ball for Gary Bruce to slot past the keeper and giving Cairn a cushioned 3-1 win.

Just like the first, Cairn had the better of the shots in the second half as well, 12-3, giving them a 24-8 advantage for the game. BBC's Dillon Bowman finished with 9 saves. Dave Shaffer made 3 stops on the day, earning his 4th win of the season and dropping his Goals Against Average for the season to 1.37, a career-best at this point.

Cairn takes on another conference foe in Immaculata this Saturday at 2pm. Last season, the Might Macs topped Cairn 2-1.
